1. Convening an Annual Public Meeting

We host an Open House/Curriculum Night/Title I Informational Meeting in the fall of each school year to inform parents about Title I and their right to be involved. 

2. Offering a Flexible Number of Meetings

Parent Conferences are held before, during and after school.  Parents who cannot come to the school are contacted by phone.  Curriculum Nights and an Annual Public Meeting are provided. 

3. Involving Parents in an Organized, Ongoing, and Timely Way  

Monthly SIT Team Meetings are held, as well as PTO Board Meetings.  Our SIT Team includes staff members and parents who meet to discuss school improvement issues.  Two parents are elected to serve as representatives on our SIT Team. They relay information to parents through a newsletter and at PTO Meetings.  Parents are involved in other parent meetings and through parent surveys.  Information is also relayed to parents through school calendars, “Home and School Connections”, our website and school sign. School personnel contacts parents through individual phone calls, Connect Ed (our automated phone system) and written parent notices.  Classroom teachers contact parents through classroom newsletters and notices, phone calls, progress reports, report cards and Curriculum Nights.

4. Providing Timely Information

Monthly SIT Team Meetings are held, as well as PTO Board Meetings.  Our SIT Team includes staff members and parents who meet to discuss school improvement issues.  Two parents are elected to serve as representatives on our SIT Team. King Elementary hosts an annual Open House/Curriculum Night as well as other Curriculum and Information Nights as directed to specific topics.  Parents also have input through PTO and SIT Meetings.

7. Developing School-Parent Compacts  

Parents complete surveys in the spring of each year for the next year’s compacts.  School Improvement Team then reviews and approves Parent-Student-Teacher compacts.  Parents/students and teachers involved with the Title I program sign compacts in the fall of each year.

Parents are provided with school calendars, “Home School Connection”, student daily planners/reading logs, teacher newsletters to parents, progress reports, report cards, phone calls, curriculum nights, Waterford Assessments, Study Island, and our school web page.

10. How to Educate Staff on the Value of Community Involvement

Staff members are involved in SIT Team, staff meetings, grade level planning and staff development.      

11. Information Sent in Language Parents can understand

School wide information is translated if needed.

12. Opportunities for parents of students with disabilities

Parents of students with disabilities participate in I. E. P. meetings and receive in-home visits as needed.  Parents and students are included in school wide activities, field trips, curriculum nights and inclusion activities.
